Anza-Borrego Desert: Big Wash

Rating *****
Length 9.4 mile (return) - 3 Hour, 30 minutes (return trip). Easy.
Elevation 360 - 830 feet
Access 4x4 preferred. On the 78, close to marker 87, turn north on a dirt road (Buttes Pass road), follow the signs Butte Pass and turn left in the San Felipe Wash, keep right in the San Felipe and park after 1.1 mile.

A hike along small sand dunes in a wider wash, along mud hills and in narrow slot like canyons.

At point park hike cross country, North/East until you meet the actual wash.
Hike up the Big Wash heading North.
After about an hour the hills start to get bigger and the canyon walls get higher. This is where the most scenic part starts.

Gradually the wash forks and narrows considerably. Eventually the canyon is too narrow to hike in, a nice point to return.
The hike is surprisingly easy, with firm (mud) sand and no obstacles.
