The Hornblende canyon is always a pleasure to hike.
Hike as far as you can go.
After point "Narrow" the canyon gets more and more interesting. Meaning small granite falls and more boulders.
The plant live is interesting because you encounter a lot of temperature zones.
Don't miss out the mine about 1/2 hour from the start.
Hornblende isn't very useful. So as this is the Golden state, it was probably gold they where looking for.
There are a couple of gold mines (abandoned), just on the other side of the mountain (West).
The hike took us close to 5 hours, so it's a longer hike.
How to get there:
The hike starts from the asphalt.
From the North, it's the first wider sandy canyon on the right past the Box Canyon historical marker.
The sandy canyon wash with a no dogs sign and asphalt to park, on the opposite side of the road.
