Anza-Borrego Desert: Thimble Trail Loop

Rating *****
Length 6.5 mile - 2 Hour, 45 Minutes (round trip). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 1100 - 720 feet
Access Most cars, exit signed Thimble Trail mile 31.9 and drive for 1.4 mile up a hill with a sign on the left. This is a good park road with some soft sand. 4x4 preferred

At first glance the terrain looks rather flat, but that's soon to change.
From the roadside parking, hike South/West, en we will end up at the Short Wash, very close where the Thimble trail ends.

Cross the road and head South until you reach a rim, head West to find a way down. A view similar to that of Fonts point.
Follow the wash West until you reach the road (Vista Malpais).
Follow the road West and hike along the short wash West.

Head North on a small wash, cross over on the other side and follow the nice wash up to the Fork.
Head North/West, this will be hard to follow without a GPS as the wash keeps on forking.

Close to the end, the wash narrows and turns into a slot like canyon. A short scramble to get out of the wash and head for the car.
Watch out where you step as there are lots of tunnels (wildlife), close to the surface.
