Anza-Borrego Desert: Box Canyon

Rating *****
length 5.8 mile - 3 hour 30 minutes (round trip). Moderate.
Elevation 2250 - 3090 feet
Access All Cars, all paved. On route S2, south of marker 27, park in a parking area.

At the parking head north, an old marker stands along the trail (US Mormon Battalion), walk on the hiking trail parallel to the S2.
When you meet the S2, walk along the side of the road for 100 feet and head on the California Riding and Hiking trail on the right.
The trail is staying lower as the main road rises. After some time the road is way above on the left.
Along the road there is an historic marker. Pass a trail heading right into a small canyon.

Move right (south) (probably not marked) on what turns into an old mining road. Head along the hardly visible old road up the mountain.
On top you find the remains of a mining site.

More info about the mine: Felden Mine
