Anza-Borrego Desert: Glorietta Canyon Loop

Rating *****
length 6.4 mile, 3 hour 35 minutes (loop). Moderate.
Elevation 820 - 1820 feet
Access Take the Tubb Canyon road (no road sign) as the road makes a sharp turn. Almost immediately turn left again. Park at the sign no tresspassing. But you can just as easily park closer to the asphalt. (all cars)

A less known canyon but one of the most beautiful of the park.
The hike is over mostly rocky terrain, except for the beginning and the end of the hike.

Start the hike going right (South west), keeping clear of the private land.
Hike along the clearly marked park boundary, heading south. slightly to the west.

The canyon entrance can be seen in the distance.
This part is cross country as most of the rest of the hike.
Close to the canyon we hit the dirt road that ends a primitive campground.
Take a small wash with a no dogs (huge dogs) sign.

This part is surprisingly easy to hike.
Top 1 is the end of the wash, following another wash downhill.
At the Xing left we turned left, but going right here should make the hike a lot shorter and maybe easier.
Past top 2 the hike gets a lot more difficult a lot of huge boulders, dry waterfalls and more slippery terrain. Not exceptionally difficult but quite different from the first part.

Some experience in navigating these rough canyons is welcome. One or a pair of hiking sticks is a must.

Finally out of the canyon the hike is easy all the way back to the car.
