Anza-Borrego Desert: Mudcaves

Rating *****
length 5.5 mile - 2 hour 30 minutes (Return trip). Easy.
Elevation 850 - 1100 feet
Access From Highway S2 Mile 43 exit Palm Spring. This sandy road is best driven by a 4x4. At the marked crossing with Arroya Tapiado turn left. Road conditions may vary but in February 2010 the "road" was excellent, probably doable without the 4x4.

Impressive canyon with slots and caves.

At the point P we parked our car. Caves and slots are before and beyond this point.
We hiked beyond. At the end we exited the canyon through a small mud canyon to the right. The exit is quite easy to do and you are rewarded with Excellent views.
Warning:
The caves are extremely dangerous, in 2012 a cave explorer dropped in one of the caves and was lost for months, later found dead.

Hiking time 2 Hour 30 minutes, but you can make it as long as you want.
