Anza-Borrego Desert: Torote Canyon

Rating *****
length 3.8 mile - 2 hour (Round trip., from the trail head). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 1120 - 1700 feet
Access On Hwy S2 close to Mile 46, Indian Gorge take the dirt road heading west.

How far you want to drive in a regular car is up to you.
The road is sandy with some rocks. I have seen cars make it up to the trail head, so it's possible sometimes, but not recommended.
The trail heads to the right into the canyon. Mid March 2009 there where lots of wild flowers and a lot of cacti where blooming.
A hike in a wash with some rocks to step over.

It's a risk going in without a 4x4, you may make it, sometimes without any problems, but you can just as easily get stuck in the soft sand.
