It's all in the name.
The further you hike up in the wash, the smaller the scrubs.
A very scenic hike, with colored mud hills mixed with some gravel.
The closest thing to being on the Moon.
How to get there:
You need some ground clearance and an AWD is highly recommended because you may encounter loose sand.
On the 78 take the marked exit Butte Pass.
On the next marked crossing, turn right towards Butte Pass.
Keep on going on the next crossing and as you pass the Hawk canyon on your left, keep on going downhill.
Once down in the Borrego Mountain Wash, turn sharply left.
Reset you trip, and drive for 1.8 Mile.
You see a marker Borrego Mountain Wash on what looks like a Y crossing.
But if you look to the right you see another "road", drive this one for close to 0.2 mile.
The Hills of the Moon wash is on the right.
You can shave up to an hour of this hike, by driving up to point Park 2.
This isn't the end of the road, so drive as far as you can or like.
This route is one of the best dirt roads in the park. Should be a piece of cake for any SUV with AWD.
