A hike along Pena spring with water most of the year, up the canyon and back along the California Riding and Hiking trail.
Take the trail marked Pena Spring and explore.
At the spring hike West up a canyon filled with scrubs.

Try following one of the many animal trails.

At the end of the canyon a bit of scramble to get out of the canyon.
Turn South/East toward the California trail.
You should be able to see the faint California trail from afar.

Head East back toward the car on an easy trail with stunning views.

On the way up, expect at times dense scrubs, but mostly harmless and some boulders.
Just short of a bush walk, but well worth the hike.
