Combs Peak is the highest summit of Bucksnort Mountain, it is also the highest peak in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park.
It is the fifth highest peak in San Diego County.
A great hike for the end of March or April.
Hike North on the Pacific Crest Trail, that gradually ascents to a saddle.
After just over 2 miles, you will reach the saddle.
Watch for ducks, rock cairns on the left.
The trail goes South/West and goes up to the peak in an very direct route.
For the most part this is an excellent trail up to the peak, sand mixed with some gravel.
Strangely enough, there are no boulders up to the top except one.
This is the only short steep and slippery part of the hike. The good thing: there are enough rocks around for you hands to make a safe descend.
On the way down from the peak a hiking stick is preferred.
Warning:
Watch out for: Eriodictyon parryi, that can cause allergic skin reactions.
This is a high elevation peak, so watch out for snow, between December and March.

How to get here:
On the 79 exit close to mile: 45.7, take the the Chihuahua Valley Road (asphalt) and drive for 6.4 mile.
Don't miss the exit in the bend, there is a yellow arrow sign "Lost Valley 10 miles" (see picture), pointing to the road on the right, heading east.
Follow the dirt road, that gets a bit rougher, but should be fine for most cars, up to mile: 4.8.
At that point the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) crosses the road, park.
