Anza-Borrego Desert: Fish Creek South Fork Mile 9.2

Rating *****
Length 5 mile (return) - 2 Hour, 40 minutes (return trip). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 900 - 1180 feet
Access High clearance, 4x4 advised, see below.

This is one of the small washes in Fish Creek, a really scenic area to hike in.

We enter the small wash, going North/West, hit a small dry fall, go back and find a spot to hike up.
Continue to the end and go over the ridge South into another wash, that eventually will take you to the road.
At that point hike back and take the tiny wash to the right (North/East).
Cross over and again, now we are in a wash that leads back to the car

This area is part of the Blackwood Basin, a petrified forest, that extends from Sandstone canyon up to the Loop wash junction (west end).

How to get here:

Take Split Mountain Road (asphalt with potholes, but they did fix it in 2015) for about 8 miles.

Follow the road towards the Fish Creek campground.
Where the road starts is mostly in the middle of the wash. But in other years at the right hand side of the wash as in 2013.

Road condition vary a lot from year to year.
The road is sandy with some rocks.

As soon as you see the wind cave sign on the left side of the wash (after 5 miles), keep in the same wash, by keeping a bit to the left.
Don't go into the first North fork, but keep left.
The wash you are entering should be signed as South Fork.

From the entrance of the South Fork, drive for about 5 Mile to a small wash on the right(North).
This is about 9.2 mile from where came of the asphalt and entered the fish creek wash.
