Anza-Borrego Desert: Fault wash loop

Rating *****
length 7.8 mile, 3 hour (Return trip). Easy.
Elevation 380 - 650 feet
Access From Cut across road, exit fault wash, more below.

A loop in the Fault wash, deep in the Borrego badlands.

Hike clockwise into the fork heading West.
Follow the wide firm wash all the way to point "Cross over", where it's easy to get into the main fork of the Fault wash.
It will be extremely difficult to follow the forking wash up to the crossover point, a GPS is almost essential.
After 500 yards, the Fault wash road, follow it back to the car. The wash is wide, so no need to hike on the road all the way.

How to get here:

There are at least 2 ways to get here:
From the S22, drive the Palo Verde wash and exit on the signed Cut across road. Or from Hwy 78, close to mile 87, drive the Buttes Pass road, cross the San Felipe wash and follow the signed Cut across road.
Take the exit Fault wash and park at the first fork.
On both roads you may encounter soft sand and some ground clearance is essential.
