Anza-Borrego Desert: Sin Nombre Carrizo East Loop
||11.1 mile (return) - 4 Hour, 30 Minutes (return trip). Easy/Moderate.
||510 - 970 feet
||Take South Carrizo Creek trail, turn East on the Overland and turn right on the marked Sin Nombre trail. High clearance 4x4 only.
This is a great hiking area, steeper canyons, sandstone and gravel.
Hike clockwise, on this GPS only hike.
Point "Over 1" is a bit of climb up a hill, but easy to go down, once on top.
The other over point follows a small drainage all the way to the top and again easy to go up and down.
We had one failed attempt to cross over at point "Viewpoint", it's incredibly steep, so no true trail there.
The Carrizo Impact Area has been in use until 1959. it is an closed off area with unexploded ordnance. Sometimes buried deep in the sand.
The hike is just outside the impact area.
Make sure you don't head further East and stay inside San Diego county.
How to get here:
Take South Carrizo Creek trail an excellent dirt road except for the deep tracks. Some time after rain the road may be muddy.
At the end turn East on the sandy Overland and almost immediately turn south on the marked Sin Nombre trail
Mark any fork, to make sure you drive back the same track you came in on.
Park after about 0.8 Mile from the Overland.
