Anza-Borrego Desert: Sin Nombre Carrizo East Loop

Rating *****
Length 11.1 or 8 mile (loop) - 4 Hour, 30 Minutes (loop). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 510 - 970 feet
Access Take South Carrizo Creek trail, turn East on the Overland and turn right on the marked Sin Nombre trail. High clearance 4x4 only.

This is a great hiking area, steeper canyons, sandstone and gravel.

Hike clockwise, on this GPS only hike.
Point "Over 1" is a bit of steep up the sandy hill, once over the top it's an easy walk down.

In 2022 we shortened the hike by following an alternative route, an easy shortcut that shaves off at least 3 miles of the otherwise long loop.

Warning:
The Carrizo Impact Area has been in use until 1959. it is an closed off area with unexploded ordnance. Sometimes buried deep in the sand.
The hike is just outside the impact area.
Make sure you don't head further East and stay inside San Diego county.

How to get here:
Take South Carrizo Creek trail an excellent dirt road except for the deep tracks. Some time after rain the road may be muddy.
At the end turn East on the sandy Overland and almost immediately turn south on the marked Sin Nombre trail
Mark any fork, to make sure you drive back the same track you came in on.
Park after about 0.8 Mile from the Overland / Vallecito Creek.
