One of the places in/close to the park where volcanic lava is easy accessible.
Start hiking south in a small wash, at the foot of a hill.
After a minute head west, eventually following a wide sandy wash, with off-road tracks.
Cars can't make it that much further, as boulders blocks the road and more to come, unfortunately motorcycles can.
The off-road tracks can loosen up the wash, making it that much harder to hike.
Don't miss the climb up to Red Hill. The climb is gentle and fairly easy.
Once on the rather flat Red Hill head south/east on a ridge and eventually down Lava Flow Wash.
Not really what you expect in a Lava Flow Wash, more granitic rocks and some boulders as the wash it a bit rough.
Eventually more and more sand and a wide wash leading back towards the car.
Don't follow the wash all the way down as the route takes a 90 degree turn just before a hill.
