Anza-Borrego Desert: Thimble loop west

Rating *****
Length 5 mile (Round trip) - 3 Hour (Round trip). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 4600 - 5220 feet
Access Most cars, see below.

Continue hiking on the dirt road and as it forks follow the dirt road east.
Over time the "road" is covered with a couple of dead trees and fades more and more.
This is BLM land that borders private property.
On the dirt road at the saddle, look east and aim for the saddle, south of the Thimble Peak.
Make sure to leave the dirt road as this road enters private property.

A fence marks the Anza-Borrego Desert park boundary, you are allowed to cross it.
Now keep the fence on the right hand side, on the other side is private property.
As soon as the fence allows a 90 degree turn south, follow the fence more or less. Eventually the track loops back along the foot of the Thimble Peak.

Warning:
The first part is BLM, shooting is NOT allowed, but we think it happens anyway.

How to get here:

In Ranchita turn in Lead Rd (Dirt road heading North) follow the road as it bends slightly to the right (east) and continues North.
On Landmark Ln (may be unsigned, but is the more obvious route) turn right and at the sign BLM turn left (the other direction is Private Property).
At this point the road gets increasingly more interesting, close to point "Park" there is plenty of parking space.
