Anza-Borrego Desert: Diablo Dieguenos loop 2

Rating *****
Length 10.8 mile (return) - 5 Hour (round trip). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 550 - 870 feet
Access High clearance, 4x4 preferred, see below.

An easy climb out of the Diablo Canyon on an old almost invisible road.
Once on the mesa follow a couple of washes and head into a fork of the Dieguenos Wash.
The drop into the wash is the slight obstacle, not too difficult to get down.
Once in the wash, there is one obstacle left a sudden drop in the wash, a bit more difficult to get down.
Now follow the winding wash into the wide Dieguenos wash.

While following the wash, keep an eye on the San Diego County line. This is the Carrizo Impact area exclusion zone, entry is prohibited and there are no signs.
A shortcut is needed to avoid crossing the county line, DO NOT follow the wash too far.
No head up an even more winding badland wash, getting narrow towards the end and sometimes hard to follow.
Once on the mesa head for the car, crossing a larger wash and a couple of smaller drainages.

How to get here:

Take the exit Palm Spring (Highway S2 Mile 43) and drive the Vallecito Wash.
The wash road is often good, but there is sand, so drive carefully if you don't have an AWD.
Take the marked exit Seco Del Diablo heading North.
