Go over the gate.
This is the upper part of the closed Mason Valley Truck road.
Follow the dirt road for a while and head for the lake/pond.
The route follows drainages, clearances, uneven grasslands, dirt roads and trails.
Expect short stretches of denser shrubs.
How to get here:
Park along the 79 just past the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park sign. Roadside parking is outside the park.
Alternative:
All cars, Fages monument on the S1 (Sunrise Highway), mile marker 36.
