Big Laguna - PCT - Red-Tailed Roost Loop

An open forest hike with great views of the The Laguna's, Anza Borrego Desert.

At the Big Laguna Trail head north and turn right (south/east) on the marked PCT.
Watch out for an unmarked unused dirt road that connects with the Thing Valley Rd.
Hike north west, up the Thing Valley Rd (dirt road).

Pass a gate and cross the S1, on your right head towards the Red-Tailed Roost sign.
At the end of the asphalt take the Big Laguna Trail and almost immediately take the right trail.

Follow the Big Laguna Trail in the direction of Agua Dulce and pass a gate.
Continue on the Big Laguna Trail, watch out, the trail at a crossing heads south/east.

Cross a dirt road and follow a Big Laguna Trail on a dirt road.
Follow the Big Laguna Trail as it leaves the dirt road on the left eventually heading downhill towards the S1 and the parking.

Markings are often there, but not always where you need them.

Park along the S1 at the Big Laguna Trial head free to park (2022).
