Big Laguna Trail South

Rating *****
Length 7.6 mile (loop) - 4 Hour (loop). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 5330 - 5900 feet
Access All car, see below.

A hike with great views of the The Laguna's, Anza Borrego Desert and Cuyamaca Rancho.

Along the way there are several marked and unmarked view points. It's steep and slippery close to the edge.
The trail is generally an easy sandy trail, once in a while there is a rocky stretch.

This route connects with the PCT and shortcuts the "original" route that's very long.
The shortcut starts at the Storm Canyon View Point, here we leave the PCT and cross the S1 up to a chimney.
Follow the asphalt roads, that have seen better times.
Watch out at the bridge crossing, better to go around the abandoned bridge.
Now zig zag along neglected group housing and a popular camp ground.
Here we go along Little Laguna Lake and pick up the Big Laguna Trail.
Markings are there once in a while, but not always where you need them.

How to get here:
Park along the S1 at the Big Laguna Trial head ("Park") or the Storm Canyon View Point ("Park 2", both free to park (2022).
