Anza-Borrego Desert: Sunrise Trail Head to Rattle Snake Valley Ridge

Rating *****
Length 7.4 mile (Round trip) - 3 - 5 Hour (Round trip). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 4330 - 5190 feet
Access All Cars

This hike follows a ridge over Rattle Snake Valley (Lucky 5 Ranch).
Using unmarked somewhat defined trails, over partially overgrown old ranch roads.
The trails are actually almost as good as many maintained trails, in fact they might be maintained by the fire men/women that are stationed not far from here.

This "road" leads to the rattlesnake benchmark (a bit west of the road) and ends at the Harper Fire Road.
The Lucky 5 Ranch area and part of the Harper Fire Road are off limits.
That was the in and out part, you can make it as long as you want, our route is about 3 hours in and out.

Optional is a loop up and down towards the Upper Green Valley Trail.
Follow the "creek" and pick up the faint dirt road that heads over a hill.
It goes down, on a steep, but maintained unmarked trail.
At the road (closed for traffic) head a bit to the left (south) and almost immediately pick up the trail again.
As the trail reaches a drainage, leave the trail and follow the drainage down, towards the Upper Green Valley Trail.
You reach a seasonal creek with the name Sweetwater River.
Head towards the trail and head uphill.
Complete the loop towards the Sunshine Trail Head.

How to get here:
