Anza-Borrego Desert: Box Canyon

Rating *****
length 9.4 mile - 2 hour 15 minutes (up) and 2 hour (down). Moderate.
Elevation 1140 - 2400 feet
Access Take the dirt road into Coyote Canyon and park at the gate just before 3th Crossing. Normally you need at least a high clearance car, from first Crossing (check at the visitor center at Borrego Springs).

An impressive canyon well worth the trip that is narrow and rocky in some parts, but still mostly easy to hike.
With lots of flowers in March 2009.
At 3th Crossing keep right of the willows, follow the edge of the willows and go into the wash to the right.
(Head mostly North) Follow the canyon/wash all the way to the end of the canyon.
The hike is fairly easy as the canyon floor is mostly firm sand with an occasional rock passage.
The rock passages look more impressive than they are and are still not too difficult to pass. Hiking time 2 1/4 hour up and 2 hours down.
