Anza-Borrego Desert: Calcite Mine - Palm Wash Loop

Rating *****
length 6.1 mile - 3 hour (round trip). Easy/Moderate.
Elevation 540 - 1100 feet
Access At Hwy S-22 Borrego Springs <-> Salton Sea Mile 38. Accessible by all cars.

Leave your car close to the main road on the parking.
You could make it somewhat further down the road in a 4x4, but after that it is a lot more difficult.
Walk uphill to the abandoned Calcite Mine.
As we cross the Palm Wash we explore the upper slot canyon (less accessible).
Next we go further uphill to the actual mining site. There is some exploring to do and an overlook.
On our way back we take a left turn into the Palm Wash.
This is a rather easy to hike and spectacular slot canyon, in the direction of the trail head.
Total hiking time 3 Hours. In the narrow canyon there is shade.
